What Sound Sultan Told Me Before He Died – Ypick

A lead guitarist and music devotee, Ypick who hails from Ondo has revealed what popular singer ‘Sound Sultan’ told him before he died

Ypick, a guitarist from Ondo state, was the guitarist for the late musician Sound Sultan. In an interview with galantnaija News, Ypick discussed how the late artist influenced his life.

“Sound Sultan was an angel in human form, and knowing him is a blessing,” he says. We’d been together for more than ten years. We’d traveled and gone on tours both locally and internationally. I was closer to him than I was to my family. We had a lot of arguments when I initially started working with him, but we eventually bonded.

On stage, our chemistry was flawless. I’ll miss our stage performance terribly; I doubt I’ll ever be able to duplicate it with another performer. The Sultan of Sound was extremely accommodating.

One of the greatest things I learnt from him is being faithful to one woman. He inspired me with his way of life .He does not drink or smoke .If you find a red cup with him in a club or at any event, trust me it’s water or juice that is inside the cup. The popularity I have today in the industry is through him. I am yet to grasp the reality that he is no more. It’s like he traveled and will be back. I miss him so much”.

Ypick also bemoaned the fact that guitarists are not revered in the Nigerian music industry.

“Guitarists are not appreciated like artistes yet in Nigeria because it’s not really part of our culture yet”.
