Troost-Ekong & Iwobi to miss Super Eagles, Zimbabwe friendly

William Troost-Ekong and Alex Iwobi will miss Super Eagles friendly encounter against the Warriors of Zimbabwe at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Saturday.

Udinese center-back and Arsenal forward is among the three players of Ahmed Musa, Shehu Abdullahi and Odion Ighalo yet arrive at the team camp in Delta State Musa and Abdullahi are expected to hit camp on Wednesday after Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr granted dou extended break due to the Ramadan fasting and Sallah celebration.

Iwobi will joined the teammate in Egypt following his involvement in the Europa League final in Baku where he scored a thurnder bolt goal in the 4-1 loss to Premier League rival Chelsea.

Nigeria coach Rohr told reporters in Asaba: “He (Troost-Ekong) will not make it for the friendly game against Zimbabwe. We expect him to arrive soon but he won’t be ready for the game on Saturday” Super Eagles are expected to leave Delta State for Ismaila, Egypt on Sunday for the final lap of their preparations where they will play Senegal on June 16.

The three-time African champions will get their AFCON 2019 campaign underway against Burundi on June 22 at the Alexandria Stadium in Alexandria, before taking on Guinea at the same venue four days later and last group game against Madagascar on June 30.
