President of the United States, Donald Trump and his wife, Melania have contracted the coronavirus, White House officials said early Friday.
The development is coming after the president continually played down a pandemic that has killed more than 205,000 Americans.
74-year-old Trump, was diagnosed hours after it became public knowledge that Hope Hicks, a top aide who traveled with him on Air Force One and Marine One within the week, tested positive on Thursday morning of October 1.
President Trump also announced in a tweet early Friday morning that he and his wife Melania have both tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
“Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for the coronavirus. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!”
The president’s physician, Sean P. Conley, wrote later that Trump and his wife “are both well at this time, and they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence.”
