Police Commission Rejects Buhari’s Former CSO’s Service Extension, Orders Refund Of Salaries

The Police Service Commission has rejected the service extension granted to Abdulkarim Dauda, a former Chief Security Officer to President Muhammadu Buhari, by the immediate past Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.

Dauda, a Commissioner of Police who was due to retire in January 2020, had his service extended till January 2023, by the former IGP.

The decision to reject the former Presidential CSO’ service extension was reached at their 13th Plenary Meeting of the PSC.

The commission which faulted the former IGP’s move, also explained that Dauda wrote the PSC seeking promotion to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG). The former Presidential CSO has also been asked to refund the salaries he earned during the extension period.

Commissioner representing the Media and the South South Zone in the commission, Austin Braimo who addressed journalists at the end of the meeting in Abuja, also announced the promotion of two Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG).

Six Commissioners of Police were also promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs).

Braimo said;

“We want to ensure that justice is done. That is what the board has done. We took the decision so that it will act as a deterrent. The board has taken a decision and the decision will be communicated to the IG.”

He further revealed that 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police, while 24 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP) were promoted to the rank of DCP.

49 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were elevated to the rank of ACP, while 74 Superintendents of Police (SP) were moved up to the rank of CPS.

866 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) were promoted to the rank of Superintendents of Police (SP), while 716 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) 2 were confirmed ASP 1.
