Manchester City sign Leeds Midfielder Kalvin Philips

Manchester City have agreed a reported £45m deal with Leeds for their midfielder Kalvin Phillips. The club will pay £42m for the 26-year-old with potential bonuses of £3m.

City made Phillips a key summer transfer target after Fernandinho departed this summer after nine successful years with the club.

The midfielder who was in the Leeds academy had made 214 appearances for the club since his senior debut in 2015, with 23 caps for England. He has signed a five-year deal until 2027 and will join Manchester City on 1 July.

The England midfielder is expected to provide back up for Rodri at City in Pep Guardiola’s preferred single defensive midfield position.

Philips shone under former Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa, and has also shown his versatility as he had played higher up the pitch alongside Declan Rice for England, making him a-Guardiola type of player.
