At least 4 people, houses razed as gunmen attack Plateau communitie

Gunmen that attacked some communities in Miango District in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State reportedly killed at least 4 people and burnt down several houses. 

 

The gunmen attacked Zanwra, Nche-Tahu, Rikwe-Rishe A and B, Ri-Dogo, Nchu-Nzhwa villages, all in Jebbu-Miango communities of Miango chiefdom on Saturday night killing four people and leaving several others injured. An additional four corpses were said to have been recovered from the bush on Sunday August 1. 

 

Davidson Malison, national publicity secretary of Iregwe development association (IDA) in Jos however said the gunmen killed seven persons and razed over 250 houses in the attack which allegedly went on for 4 hours unchallenged. 

 

Malison said the injured persons are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital. The statement read; 

 

“The attack, which lasted for over four hours unhindered, left over 250 houses razed down in Zanwra, Nche-Tahu, Rikwe-Rishe A and B, Ri-Dogo, Nchu-Nzhwa, all in Jebbu-Miango communities of Miango chiefdom. 

“Seven people were killed, while several others were injured and are receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

“Over 40 farmlands with a variety of crops were completely destroyed and several household items and domestic animals were carted away.”

 

However the state police spokesperson, Gabriel Ubah who confirmed the attack, said the command received a report of a conflict between gunmen suspected to be Fulani militia and youths from Irigwe community.

 

According to him, four natives were killed and 50 houses were burnt. The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Edward Egbuka has visited the scene in the company of other senior officers of the command and has now ordered an investigation into the matter.
