5 Nigerian Musicians That Have Worked With Drake

Drake is one of the foreign acts that have always shown interest in the African music scene.
Around 2015 when he started working on his fourth studio album, “Views,” he became very interested in Afro and Dancehall sounds. Although unconventional for a rapper at that time, Drake sure made it cool.

Some of the breakthroughs the Afrobeats scene had around that time and even after is due to Drake’s collaboration with some of our guys (that just means Wizkid.)

Apparently, Drake will work with anyone that crosses his path and that’s why there’s a handful of Nigerian artists who have had the pleasure of working with the Canadian star. Here’s a short list.

  1. Wizkid

Of course. He has to be number one on the list. His contribution to “One Dance,” one of the most popular songs ever made, is timeless.

Later on, we discovered that Wizkid did more than just a little verse on the song. After Sarz played what appears to be a Wizkid version of the song at a battle in 2020, it became apparent that Wiz must have written the whole stuff for Drake.

  1. Tems

Yeah, Tems was very lucky this way. Because this totally could have been anyone else, but it was her.

To date, working with Drake on his “Certified Lover Boy” album is the highlight of her career. It’s also a high she might never top.

  1. Burna Boy

So many people don’t know Burna Boy and Drake have history, but they do.

In 2017, Burna Boy submitted some songs for Drake‘s “More Life” playlist, and while he didn’t use them outrightly, he used bits of them on different songs. If you listen well, you’ll definitely hear Burna Boy on some intro and outro.

  1. Tekno

This one’s a real surprise too, yeah. But Tekno actually made a beat for Drake and Swae Lee on a song called “Won’t Be Late,” years ago.

Drake was even saying stuff like “ikebe” on the song, telling you that for sure, a Nigerian had a hand in it. And, it was Tek.

  1. Sarz

Well, as it turned out. Without Sarz, there probably wouldn’t have been “One Dance.” Iconic.

Well, that’s all we got.
